Sticker Story: Fan Club President

Sticker Story: Fan Club President

I have never been particularly good at casually liking things.

When I like something, I am IN.

I don't just hear a song and think, Oh, that's nice.

I listen to the album.

Then I listen to it again.

Then I need to know who wrote the songs, what they're about, and whether there's an interview where the artist talked about them. I have favorites. I have theories. I have opinions.

And, obviously, I need tickets.

This doesn't only happen with music.

I've done it with Taylor Swift. Matt's Off Road Recovery. Gilmore Girls. Driver Era. Spur9.  Other YouTubers, Books. Movies. Shows. People. Places. Hobbies. Random bits of nostalgia. And probably several things I've forgotten because another shiny new thing eventually came along and captured my attention.

Tonight, I'm going to see Role Model.

And at this particular moment, I am VERY invested.

But that's exactly why this sticker doesn't say Role Model.

Or Taylor Swift.

Or Driver Era.

Or anything else.

It just says:

Fan Club President.

Because the fan club changes.

The presidency does not.

For a long time, I think there was a tiny part of me that believed grown women were supposed to temper this kind of enthusiasm.

Don't get too excited.

Don't be obsessive.

Don't be ridiculous.

Be cool.

But here's the thing:

I don't want to be cool.

I want to be delighted.

I want to count down the days until the concert. I want to play the song 47 times. I want to know the backstory. I want to wear the shirt. I want to text my friends in ALL CAPS when something happens.

I want to love things while I have the chance to love them.

Because somewhere along the way, I've realized that my ability to become completely enchanted by something isn't a character flaw.

It's one of my favorite things about myself.

There will always be another thing to worry about. Another bill. Another frustrating day. Another responsibility waiting for me.

So when something comes along that makes the world feel a little more sparkly?

I'm going in.

All in, all the time.

Maybe next month I'll be president of an entirely different fan club.

Actually, let's be serious.

I probably will be.

And I hope I never change.

Whatever you’re obsessed with this week, make it official. Grab your Fan Club President sticker and wear your enthusiasm proudly.
